HOW
WAS
SHAKE CIRCUS?
During the live art performance, which should have been tense, I entered a state of extreme relaxation and felt incredibly comfortable. I think that I received that psychological effect because of that day, that place, and the composition of the members, including the audience. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm looking forward to the next opportunity to visit.
The venue was impersonal, with a blank sheet of paper laid out on it. It gradually filled with the energy of the participants and the enthusiasm of the artist, as if it were alive. The artist seemed to sense the energy of the venue, as if he was absorbing the energy of the participants. The colors spun from the brush tips and fingers were full of joy, sadness, anger, hope... a variety of emotions that were hard to imagine given the theme. The paintings being painted in front of me were like an improvised live session, and I was simply overwhelmed by the unique expressions, which were never the same. It was a stimulating experience that really stimulated my senses and shook my brain. I would definitely like to participate again.
The painting that appeared before my eyes made me realize that even though I am shining so brightly right now, I am still smoldering, meaning that I can shine even brighter. I realized that even while smoldering, I am still emitting a glow like a small explosion, and that even smoldering itself is harmonious and beautiful when viewed from the perspective of the universe as a whole. I felt a sense of relief that everything is precious, and that the world is beautiful no matter where you look, whether it is shining or not.
I felt that SHAKE CIRCUS, where the work is created by immersing oneself in a carefully crafted world and feeling the vibrations of the visitors there, offers a completely different depth to the experience. The keywords written on paper, the sensations felt from the drawn picture, and the title given afterwards - all of these words that come to me in an instant, not through thought, are all connected together, and it's an exhilarating feeling.
This time in particular, the theme of "Impulse" evoked various momentary impulses. Intense impulse, the impulse to quietly savor, the impulse to feel the flow, the impulse to release in an instant, the impulse that gradually spreads...Through the three-dimensional expression that Sachiko painted in front of me, I also felt a sense of letting go and liberating myself, accepting the various impulses within myself. The keyword I gave to the title "Enlightenment" that was born from this feels like an important hint for me for the future.
By visualizing not only my own vibrations, frequencies, and states of being, but also those of other people, I was able to feel even more keenly how interesting this project is. I can see what will emerge and see unimaginable developments emerge, so I want to do it again and again.
If paintings are life and death, then live art is life. That's what I thought. If you look at the results of human life, I think it can be summarized into three things: being born, giving birth, and dying. When you think about enjoying life, focusing only on the "results" of life, giving birth, and dying seems simple and somehow lonely. Isn't the real joy of life to enjoy the other "processes"?
If you think about it that way, paintings are the result, and live art is the process. At SHAKE CIRCUS, there is a pleasure to be had from enjoying the time it takes to complete a work. The appeal of SHAKE CIRCUS is, frankly, its pleasure.
The cast, who has become the shaman of the theme, plays with colors as they please, slippery and sticky. She has a high level of physicality, so she moves through the space as supple as a cat. First of all, it is beautiful and pleasant to watch. For example, the scene I saw was a thin, watery ink puddle with gold paint splashed on it, and then the gold spread softly into the ink and quietly mixed together. That in itself was beautiful and sensual. I was entranced. The fresh paints were layered from above, mixed with the paint and water underneath, and overlapped. The colors formed relationships here and there. When it dried, it was over. I had to witness it properly. Sensual scenes were scattered here and there. My senses were busy. It felt good to observe and admire the process of this embodied theme drying with my senses. A new kind of pleasure. The cast moves on behalf of our desires. The cast moves according to the vibration frequency, so if you want her to move, send vibrations. Just think, "Go for it! There!", as if you were moving an avatar in a game. By the time the work is completed, your sense of beauty will be full. After everyone has transcribed the completed work in their own way, they will discard it. Yes, this is not about enjoying the results. A flower blooms for one night. That's what it means. How elegant.
It was a moment in which I quietly mobilized all of my available sensory functions to transmit the memory of that moment to every single cell in my body.
Offering what you feel exactly as you feel it, I experienced the divine quality of that delicate sensation.
The cast looked like a fairy in a painting, and was so cute and impressive that I decided to just let it be as I felt it, rather than thinking too much about it. I felt refreshed when I returned home. I felt as if I was a child again, bathed in the mysterious light of the fairies.
The act of painting seemed like a kind of religious ritual, and the movements looked like a dance. I was shocked to see that something really possesses you when you paint.
I had the image of a performance as something that you master, pouring all your energy into at that moment, but the performance at SHAKE CIRCUS feels completely different; it's something that you freely enjoy in that moment, the creativity that is born in that moment. It's not a picture to leave behind, but live art that allows only the people there to feel the thrill. What a luxurious experience it is.
